Autotelic Studios
January 2016-October 2017
Chicago-based artist And Crist founded Autotelic Studios in 2010. Autotelic served as a nonprofit arts organization that offered affordable, alternative workspaces and exhibitions from 2010 until 2017. Ryan Burns (director of Cleaner Gallery) began curating shows at Autotelic Studios in 2016. Below are the exhibitions curated under his direction.
Cleaner Gallery History
Autotelic Studios was established as a 35 sq ft window gallery in the storefront window of 1856 N Richmond St. in Humboldt Park, Chicago. Chicago-based artist Andi Crist founded Autotelic Studios in 2010. Autotelic served as a nonprofit arts organization that offered affordable, alternative workspaces and exhibitions from 2010 until 2017. Ryan Burns (director of Cleaner Gallery) began curating shows at Autotelic Studios in 2016. Burns took over ownership of the gallery in 2017, initially naming it Night Light Gallery + Studios. In 2020, Burns renamed the gallery Cleaner Gallery + Projects after remodeling the studios and building out the gallery to 235 sq ft, in order to expand gallery programming and allow for two-person exhibitions. In January 2021, Lauren Iacoponi joined the Cleaner Gallery Team as the Gallery Manager. Later in the summer of 2022, Ari Norris joined Cleaner Gallery + Projects, and remodeled the back space of the building into a second Gallery. Norris began curating exhibitions for Gallery B in September 2022, while Burns continues to curate the front space, Gallery A.
The gallery focuses primarily on painting, sculpture, and installation, exhibiting emerging and mid-career artists across the midwest. Cleaner Gallery is owned and operated by Chicago artist Ryan Burns with the help of Ari Norris (Curator of Gallery B) and Lauren Iacoponi (Gallery Manager). Cleaner Gallery + Projects is a member of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA).
